Conservation

Central Coast Aquarium's orange octopus logo

Octopuses have remarkably short lifespans, typically living only two to three years. Their lives naturally conclude after reproduction, a vital stage in their life cycle. At the Central Coast Aquarium, we honor this process by ensuring that every octopus in our care is eventually released back into the wild. This practice allows them the opportunity to reproduce, complete their natural life cycle, and contribute to the health and balance of the ocean ecosystem. Our “Octopus Philosophy” reflects our commitment to respecting the natural rhythms of marine life and promoting responsible stewardship of the animals we temporarily care for.

beach cleanup

Keep our coastlines clean! Host a beach cleanup with us and make a real impact on our local coastline. Beach cleanups are perfect for teams, clubs, community groups, friends, or family looking to give back while keeping our beaches and oceans clean. Your group will help remove marine pollution, support ocean conservation, and build teamwork through environmental stewardship. We provide equipment, including one bucket, one grabber, and one pair of gloves per two participants. Equipment must be returned by 3:00 PM on the day of your cleanup. Reserve your cleanup today and turn your next team outing into a positive impact for the coast.

Did you know that exhibit hall admission fees and education program fees cover only about 65% of our operational needs in a year? And, that 65% includes all proceeds from the gift shop! Therefore, CCA must continue to raise funds to cover the gap in funding in order to keep the public exhibit hall open 6 days a week year round, provide excellent animal care for the over 250 animals in our collection, and have the ability to offer scholarships to schools ensuring a diverse group of students get the benefit of marine science education.
