Discovery Lab
Discovery Labs take place at our facility in the Carol Kiessig Marine Education Center and outdoor patio. Each lab includes age appropriate lessons and hands-on activities that introduce students to a variety of marine science topics. All programs include a self-guided visit to the Aquarium Exhibit Hall and Gift Shop. Explore our programs below to learn more!

DISCOVERY LAB PROGRAMS information
- Discovery Labs are guided by the Next Generation Science Standards to provide grade appropriate marine science lessons and activities to PreK-12th grade students
- Discovery Labs engage students in hands-on, interactive learning to inspire curiosity and promote stewardship of the ocean and its inhabitants
- Each program includes (1) 45-50 minute Discovery Lab
- Self-guided Aquarium time to follow
- Each lab has a 30 student capacity to ensure an appropriate student to instructor ratio
- For groups with more than 30 students, class rotations can be scheduled for (1) or (2) program options
- Discovery labs can be scheduled on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays beginning at 10AM
2025-26 Program Pricing
*Chaperone Fee: Five adult chaperones (teachers, parents, student aids) are permitted per 30 students. A $5 fee will be applied for each additonal chaperone. Please contact us if your class requires the assistance of additional student aidsĀ
Pre-K Aquarium Explorers
Preschool programs are now available at the CCA! We welcome little ocean learners to join us for a 45 minute program featuring our touch tank organisms and friendly swell sharks. Please select Pre-K Aquarium Explorers as your program option in the school interest form below.
Scholarships
The Central Coast Aquarium strives to offer scholarship assistance for school program fees. Funds are awarded at the discretion of the Aquarium on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted.
Note: Some funds are reserved for SLO County Title I students. Applicants will be asked to provide information about their school, program of interest, and a statement of need describing how the desired program will enhance student learning.
