Lingcods are known for their elongate body and mottled coloration pattern of grey, brown, and greenish blotches used for camouflage against rocky substrates. They can reach up to 5 feet long and 80 pounds. Lingcods dwell on rocky reefs and ocean bottoms to ambush their prey of other fish, crabs, and smaller lingcods. Lingcods have large mouths with 18 sharp, large, canine-like teeth to capture prey. As they mature they will shift from shallow rocky reefs to a more complex deep rocky bottom. Lingcod are a popular fishery due to their size and aggressive nature.
