Sharks

Swell Sharks and Horn Sharks are small coastal sharks found in kelp forest off the Pacific coast. Swell Sharks get their name from their ability to swell or puff up their bodies when threatened to make them look bigger and hard to key. They are gray/brown with scattered spots which can reflect sunlight and glow in the dark. They rest in crevices during the day and hunt at night to prey on fish, squid, and crustaceans. Horn Sharks are slow moving bottom dwellers with distinctive horn-like spines on their dorsal fins. They have a strong jaw to feed to crush prey like sea urchins, crabs, and mollusks. Swell Sharks and Horn Sharks are oviparous, meaning they lay eggs in protective cases called mermaid purses.
