CALLING ALL OCEAN DETECTIVES! Join us as we embark on a week-long journey of marine science mystery and fun to uncover who stole the forbidden treasure of Captain McCracken. Through lab activities, games, team challenges, and adventures, we will work together to crack the case! Arrrrrgh you up for the task?

Each week of camp will feature a different theme with similar activities and daily beach time fun. Explore our camp schedules and themes below.

jr sea explorers (ages 5-7)

*Each session will include themed games, crafts, team challenges, beach exploration, and more!

*Half day campers will be unable to join for afternoon beach time. We highly encourage full day attendance for the best camp experience!

*Each camp session will feature a one-of-a-kind Floating Lab experience! Join us as we explore the coastal ecology of Avila Bay aboard a 55 foot sportfishing vessel. Plus guest presentations, field excursions, games, team challenges, and more!

*Our Ocean Discovery Campers are taking to the seas during a week of outdoor adventures including our one-of-a-kind Floating Lab experience, kayaking & hiking in Avila Bay, and a visit to the Harford Seafood Company* (*pending availability). Scholarship opportunities

The Central Coast Aquarium gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the San Luis Obispo Community Foundation for providing summer camp scholarships and supporting our mission of cultivating ocean stewardship through education, engagement, and action.

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Grant-funded scholarships are available for those seeking financial assistance for camp.
  • The purpose of this financial aid is to assist families who would not otherwise have the financial means to send a child(ren) to camp or attend a marine science program.
  • At this time, scholarships are reserved for children attending Title I schools in San Luis Obispo County.
  • Award amounts will be distributed based upon level of financial need, as determined by the California State Department of Housing and Community Development income guidelines and availability of funds.
  • Extenuating circumstances may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

How To Apply

  • Do you meet the eligibility requirements above? If so, please complete our scholarship application by clicking the button below.
  • In your application you will be asked to provide the following information:
    • Gross annual household income (W2 form(s) required)
    • Household size (guardians and dependents)
    • Level of financial support you are requesting
    • Any extenuating circumstances that may impact your child’s ability to attend camp

Awards

  • Scholarship applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Please allow 2-3 weeks for your application to be processed. We will contact you about your award status.
  • Award amounts will vary depending on the level of financial need requested. Fee reductions of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% (full ride) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • If selected for a scholarship, you may be asked to provide additional income verification prior to receiving financial aid.

CANCELATION POLICY

Camp reimbursements will be distributed accordingly:

  • Please provide a minimum of a four week courtesy notice if you are unable to attend camp to receive a full refund.
  • A 75% refund will be issued within three weeks of camp notice.
  • A 50% refund will be issued within two weeks of camp notice.
  • A 25% refund will be issued within one week of camp notice.
  • Refunds will not be administered if notice is provided less than one week before your registered camp session.
